Germany’s Defense Minister Pistorius stated that they are ready to take on more responsibility for the security of the country, emphasizing the need to act swiftly, cohesively, and transparently to strengthen defense.

Speaking at the Europe 2025 conference in the capital, Berlin, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius highlighted the necessity of a European Union that can act quickly, decisively, and cohesively in a world where the international order is progressively weakening.

Expressing Germany’s readiness to assume more responsibility for its security, Pistorius stressed the importance of acting swiftly, cohesively, and transparently to bolster defense. Pistorius pointed out three key areas in the restructuring of European defense: increasing defense spending, continuing support for Ukraine, and implementing standardized certification procedures for defense industries within the EU. He emphasized the need to expedite the implementation of these issues, stating that Europe should not allow itself to be weakened or destroyed from within or from external forces.

Pistorius also added that Russian President Vladimir Putin has shown no genuine interest in a ceasefire or peace in Ukraine.
