Measles Outbreak Alert in the US: Second Death in Past 10 years

In the United States, the number of measles-related deaths has risen to 2 with one more person losing their life due to measles. It was reported that this death is the second measles-related fatality in the country over the past 10 years. It was noted that the fatality is also the first death related to measles in New Mexico in over 40 years.

In the state of New Mexico, a person who tested positive for measles has passed away. The state health department announced that this is the second measles-related death in the country in the past 10 years.

David Morgan, the Public Information Officer at the New Mexico Department of Health, stated that the deceased individual had not been vaccinated and did not seek any medical assistance before their death.

FIRST DEATH IN OVER 40 YEARS IN NEW MEXICO

Morgan mentioned that the fatality is the first death related to measles in the state in over 40 years, and the investigation into the exact cause of death is ongoing.

The deceased adult patient, whose identity was not disclosed, is reported to be the first measles-related death in the state.

159 MEASLES CASES REPORTED

US officials indicated that measles cases are rapidly spreading in West Texas, with a total of 159 cases reported as of Tuesday. It was stated that in Lea County, affiliated with New Mexico, there are 10 confirmed cases.

Last week, a child in Texas became the first death due to measles in the US in the past decade.

Experts recalled that the deceased child was not vaccinated, emphasizing that the most effective way to prevent measles is through the MMR vaccine, with two doses being 97% effective.
