THREE MEN ATTACKED THE TOURIST GROUP A male Indian tourist in the same group was thrown into the Tungabhadra Canal and killed by the attackers while attempting to save the women. According to the Associated Press, three men on motorcycles approached the tourist group asking for money.
MALE TOURISTS PUSHED INTO WATER CHANNEL After the argument, the three men pushed the male tourists into the water channel and sexually assaulted the women. One of the Indian tourists pushed into the canal drowned. Two of the suspects involved in the attack have been arrested, with the investigation ongoing.
SEXUAL VIOLENCE IN INDIA Sexual violence against women in India sparked protests last year after a doctor working at a hospital in Kolkata was raped and killed. The attack triggered mass protests and led to doctors across the country going on strike.
