Man accused of trying to kill his cancer-stricken wife by suffocating her provides an interesting defense

2 Mins Read

In the United States, the defense of a 46-year-old man on trial for attempting to kill his cancer-stricken wife was shocking. DeWayne McCulla, residing in Utah, tried to suffocate his wife, Arenda McCulla, who had been undergoing treatment for breast cancer for a year, in front of their family. Arenda McCulla, in the final stages of her illness, passed away a day after the horrifying incident.
During the trial held last Thursday, DeWayne McCulla confessed to trying to kill his wife by suffocating her. The 46-year-old man used the reason of “wanting to end Arenda’s suffering” as his excuse for the crime.
Experts confirmed that the deadly disease had spread to the unfortunate woman’s brain, neck, and lungs. Arenda McCulla, who had undergone radiation therapy multiple times to alleviate the effects of the terminal disease, was spending her last days at home in La Verkin with her family. DeWayne McCulla, the husband of Arenda McCulla, suddenly grabbed her by the throat in front of everyone and tried to kill her. DeWayne McCulla let go of his wife’s throat when family members intervened, and the unfortunate woman, undergoing breast cancer treatment, passed away the following night.
DeWayne McCulla, who is being tried for attempted murder, claimed that he did everything because he loved his wife and that he would do the same thing again if given another chance. The 46-year-old defendant, facing up to five years in prison, will have his sentencing hearing on December 12th.
