The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, expressed his disapproval of President Donald Trump’s decision to increase customs duties as “harsh and unjustified.” Macron held a meeting in the capital city of Paris with representatives of sectors that will be affected by the new tax regulations in his country. During the meeting, Macron stated that he found Trump’s decision to be “harsh and unjustified,” mentioning that this step by the U.S. would seriously impact all sectors and exports in Europe. Macron urged French companies operating in the U.S. to suspend investment projects until the tariffs against the European Union (EU) become clear. Calling for unity among Europeans in face of this situation, Macron provided information about the steps the EU will take against the U.S. in the coming days. Evaluating Trump’s decisions as weakening the U.S. and its people, Macron argued that instead of imposing customs duties in response to deindustrialization in the West, there should be more emphasis on increasing production.
