Amid the repercussions of the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, Israel continues its air strikes on Lebanon. Israeli warplanes struck the center of Beirut for the first time, killing three members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. It was claimed that the Sunni group, Islamic Group, was also targeted in the attacks. In the southern part of the country, it was announced that Hamas’ Lebanon chief, Fatah Sharif Abu al-Emin, was killed in the bombardment. While alleged claims surfaced about the Israeli army launching a ground operation in Lebanon, new aerial bombardments were added to the assaults.
In a air strike on a building in the Kola district of Beirut, a multi-story apartment was hit. This attack in Beirut was the first since 2006, targeting a location outside the powerful Hezbollah stronghold of Dahieh district.
Local media purported that the Islamic Group, a Sunni community member, was targeted in the attack. The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) announced that three of their leaders were killed in the strike. Another Israeli attack was carried out in the south of Lebanon. According to a statement provided by Hamas on the Telegram messaging app, the Israeli warplanes targeted the home of the organization’s Lebanon leader, Fatah Sharif Abu al-Emin in the camp of El-Bass in the south of the country.
The statement indicated that al-Emin, along with his wife and two children, lost their lives in the attack. In a statement released today by the Lebanese army, it was announced that a motorcyclist Lebanese soldier was killed in an unmanned Israeli drone attack while passing through a military checkpoint in the Wazzani area in the south of the country. Yesterday, Israel also conducted airstrikes on Houthi rebels in Yemen and dozens of Hezbollah targets in Lebanon.
The health ministry led by the Houthis reported that at least four people died and 29 others were injured in the airstrikes targeting Hodeida port in Yemen. Lebanese officials, on the other hand, announced that at least 105 people were killed in yesterday’s Israeli attacks. In a continuing series of controlled clashes with Hezbollah since October 8, 2023, the Israeli army launched hundreds of airstrikes on southern cities of Lebanon, as well as the Bekaa and Baalbek regions on September 23.
According to Lebanese authorities, since the detonation of communication devices used by Hezbollah on September 17, a total of 1,178 people, including 104 children and 194 women, have died. Hezbollah is also responding to Israel with rockets and missiles. While these attacks by Hezbollah mostly target military bases on the Israeli side, no significant damage has been reported so far. Due to the Israeli bombardments, hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced within Lebanon. The migration wave from the southern regions of the country to the capital Beirut and the north continues.
The United Nations announced that the number of people fleeing Lebanon to Syria is 100,000.
