At least five people were injured in a knife attack near Amsterdam’s famous Dam Square, with three in critical condition. Despite the chaos, a local resident managed to keep the assailant under control until the police arrived.

A knife attack in Amsterdam’s Dam Square left at least five people injured.

It was reported that three of the wounded on Sint Nicolaasstraat are in critical condition.

A statement from Amsterdam Police’s X account mentioned, “A stabbing incident occurred on Sint Nicolaasstraat near Dam Square, where the injured were found. We are at Dam and have closed off the area.”

The statement mentioned that a suspect was detained at the scene and the motive behind the attack, which took place around 15.20 local time, is still unknown.

It was noted that one of the injured individuals was the apprehended suspect.

AN ONLOOKER STOPPED THE ASSAILANT In the statement, it was mentioned, “This means there were 4 victims in the stabbing incident. The suspect was neutralized with the help of a citizen. The suspect was taken to the hospital due to an injury on his leg.”

Despite the chaos, a local resident managed to keep the assailant under control until the police arrived. Footage shared on social media showing the moment of the suspect’s capture revealed that the apprehended individual was a middle-aged man. Reports in the Dutch media, based on eyewitnesses, mentioned that among the victims were women, and the suspect allegedly stabbed them from behind before fleeing.
