North Korea has released photos of a nuclear-powered submarine built under Kim Jong Un’s orders for the first time. Visiting the production facility of the submarine named Hero Kim On Ok, the North Korean leader stated, “We will never turn a blind eye to the threatening activities of enemies in the sea and underwater.” Here are the first photos of the nuclear submarine… Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea, visited a shipyard where ships and submarines are manufactured and conducted inspections. Kim received information from officials about the construction process of the ballistic missile submarine powered by nuclear energy. In his speech, Kim Jong Un drew attention to the challenging security environment in the seas surrounding North Korea, stating, “Maritime sovereignty is an important part of national sovereignty. Developing maritime forces in line with the era and equipping them with nuclear weapons are of great importance to our national defense strategy.” Pyongyang also shared photos of the nuclear-powered submarine with the public for the first time. Emphasizing that a maritime force with high deterrent capabilities can safeguard the country’s sovereignty, the North Korean leader stated, “We will never tolerate the threatening activities of enemies deploying massive strategic assets in the region, posing threats underwater and at sea.” Kim mentioned that they will further enhance the country’s maritime force to ensure security on the Korean Peninsula and its surroundings. North Korea had announced the completion of the production of a nuclear submarine capable of launching nuclear missiles by 2023. Experts had expressed doubts about the functionality of the submarine named “Hero Kim Kun Ok” which does not operate with nuclear energy. However, Kim had instructed the production of more submarines, including those powered by nuclear energy. Claims about Pyongyang producing nuclear submarines had emerged since that period. Although North Korea had announced last January that Kim had inspected the production process of a nuclear-powered submarine, no photographs or evidence were provided. With the latest development, the Pyongyang government has finally shared photos of the ballistic missile submarine powered by nuclear energy with the public for the first time.
