July rains bring joy to farmers in Erzurum

The effective rains in July in Erzurum have brought joy to the grain yield. In the province where 39,200 farmers are engaged in production, 278,000 tons of wheat and 80,000 tons of barley were harvested. The harvest season in agricultural fields in Erzurum, where 39,200 farmers produce on approximately 5 million acres, has been completed. According to meteorological data, 95.2 kilograms of rainfall per square meter fell in the first 10 days of July in the city, making farmers happy with the grain yield. This season, 278,000 tons of wheat, 80,000 tons of barley, 25,000 tons of oats, 6,600 tons of rye, and 25,000 tons of corn were harvested throughout the province. The Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, Alpaslan Kenger, said, “In general, we had a dry summer nationwide this year, but Erzurum received very good rainfall in July and we saw its impact.” Pointing out that the lands in the province are suitable for agriculture, Kenger said, “We are a province without water shortage, we have wheat and barley in our production basin. Our ministry plans the productions by focusing on water. We had a productive harvest season. We are preparing our fields for the new planting season.”
