Employees of Voice of America have initiated legal action in response to the institution being targeted by the Trump administration.
In the United States, employees of Voice of America and certain media organizations have made a statement regarding the press agency being targeted by President Donald Trump’s administration.
Following the signing of the executive order by Trump, the budget and staff numbers of “Voice of America” (VOA) have been reduced, prompting employees to file a lawsuit claiming the decision is “unlawful.” The employees, stating they are suing the U.S. administration because they consider the decision to be “unlawful,” are demanding a reversal of this decision. The legal case mentioned that a vital impartial news source has disappeared from many parts of the world. BUDGET AND STAFF REDUCTIONS President Trump had decided to decrease the budget and staff numbers of certain media organizations funded by the U.S. government, including VOA. The decision included instructions to minimize the functions of the U.S. Global Media Agency, which hosts VOA, Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty, as well as Radio Marti providing Spanish news to Cuba. It was stated that there would be budget cuts in the affiliated media organizations and a reduction in staff numbers. Subsequently, journalists working at VOA were reported to have been placed on administrative leave.
