Job Openings in the US Fell Below Expectations

In the US, the number of job openings fell to 7.443 million in September, below market expectations. The US Department of Labor released the JOLTS data for September. According to the data, the number of job openings in the country decreased by 418,000 compared to the previous month, dropping to 7.443 million in September. It was projected that the number of job openings would reach its lowest level since January 2021 at 7.980 million during this period. The data for job openings in August was recorded as 7.861 million. During this period, job openings increased in the finance and insurance sectors, while they decreased in health care and social assistance, state and local governments excluding education, and the federal government. The number of hires increased by 123,000 to reach 5.558 million during the same period. The total number of separations from jobs, including quits and layoffs, increased by 28,000 to reach 5.196 million during the same period.
