Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar spoke at a joint press conference held with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas who visited Israel in West Jerusalem. Saar mentioned that the EU is Israel’s top trading partner, highlighting the shared values, interests, and at times conflicting views they have, along with a common historical background of shared pains.

“WAR IS FOR THE WESTERN CIVILIZATION” Defending Israel as a strategic gain for the EU, Saar claimed that the fight against Iran, the Houthis, Hamas, and Hezbollah in the region is for the Western civilization. Regarding the ceasefire proposal in Gaza from the US President Donald Trump’s Middle East Special Envoy Steve Witkoff which Israel accepted but Hamas rejected, Saar alleged that the war could end tomorrow if Israeli captives in Gaza are released, Gaza is demilitarized, and armed elements of Hamas and Islamic Jihad are removed.

HUMANITARIAN AID TO GAZA Addressing Israel’s blockage of humanitarian aid to Gaza, Saar claimed that Hamas gains power from humanitarian aid, thus asserting that Israel acts in compliance with international law. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar stated that Israel will not continue the old system of distributing aid in Gaza and will establish a different system, without providing details. “WE DON’T WANT TO CONFRONT WITH TURKEY” Responding to a question about Turkey’s influence in Syria, Saar stated, “We don’t want to confront with Turkey in Syria or any other place.” When asked if Israel has discussed fully occupying Gaza and ensuring military control with the US, Saar mentioned that this issue has not been decided by the government yet.
