In Gaza, the Israeli army carried out the deadliest attack in recent months, while in Beirut, Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters was targeted. Lebanon’s official news agency announced that a residential area in southern Beirut was hit, noting its proximity to a mosque and a hospital. The Israeli army stated that the target was the command center of Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters and that an underground facility in Beirut was also hit.
Israel’s statement mentioned the killing of three Hezbollah commanders, including Abbas Selami, a top figure in the southern command of Hezbollah. The Lebanese army reported that Israel attacked a military vehicle in the south of the country, resulting in the deaths of three Lebanese soldiers.
The attack on the intelligence headquarters followed a drone strike on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s residence in Kayserya. Netanyahu held Hezbollah responsible for the attack in Beirut. After the Beirut attack, Lebanon launched rockets and missiles towards Israel. Israel announced that 70 shots were fired within a minute, with some being intercepted in the air.
Hezbollah declared that it targeted an Israeli military base east of the city of Safed. There were hopes of a ceasefire following the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. However, Israel increased its attacks in Gaza as well. The northern Gaza town of Beit Lahia witnessed the deadliest attack in recent months, with search and rescue efforts ongoing in the rubble.
