The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) announced that an Israeli tank fired on a UNIFIL observation tower. The statement included the words, “Once again, direct and deliberate fire was opened on UNIFIL positions.”
The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) stated that the Israeli army once again “opened fire directly and apparently intentionally on their positions.” The UNIFIL statement mentioned, “This morning, peacekeeping troops stationed at a position near Kefer Kila observed an Israeli Merkava tank firing at the observation tower.” The statement noted that as a result of the attack, two cameras were destroyed and the tower was damaged, reminding all actors, especially the Israeli army, of their obligation to respect the safety of UN personnel and the inviolability of their facilities.
ISRAEL HAS PREVIOUSLY TARGETED UNIFIL Israel’s army had begun targeting UNIFIL troops it wants to withdraw from the south of Lebanon as of October 10. It was announced that 20 peacekeepers were injured in attacks repeated for 4 consecutive days.
