Israeli soldiers who killed thousands of civilians in Gaza have confessed to using Palestinians as living shields. Speaking to the American media, Israeli soldiers revealed that they hid behind civilians, including Palestinians, to attack Hamas positions, as well as forced people at gunpoint from their homes into booby-trapped tunnels. Soldiers speaking to the American New York Times admitted to using Palestinian prisoners as living shields to avoid risks during operations in Gaza. They described how they hid behind Palestinians forced at gunpoint while attacking Hamas positions, and sent Palestinian prisoners into booby-trapped tunnels. Some soldiers reportedly objected to the practice, but Israeli commanders allegedly claimed that “the lives of Palestinians were worthless.” Israeli soldiers mentioned that some of these individuals turned out to be innocent Palestinian prisoners, and some were civilians who had lost their homes. Some Palestinians interviewed by the newspaper recounted how soldiers came to their homes and shops, took them hostage, made them undress, handcuffed them, and then used them as human shields. In the early 2000s, the Israeli army had carried out a similar operation where soldiers approached the homes of Hamas members in Gaza and the West Bank hiding behind Palestinian civilians. This practice, named the “Neighbor Procedure,” was later banned by the Israeli High Court. Recently, footage of Israeli soldiers tying a Palestinian to a military vehicle caused outrage. Legal experts state that such methods, previously used by US soldiers during the Vietnam War, constitute war crimes. On the other hand, it was alleged that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu is considering a plan to completely starve the north of Gaza. A plan presented by retired generals aims to cut off all humanitarian aid to the region, leading it to starvation and death. The plan includes giving a three-week period for civilians to evacuate the area, with anyone remaining classified as combatants. According to the plan obtained by the Associated Press, the Israeli army would remain in the north of Gaza while establishing a new administration excluding Hamas. Referred to as the “Generals’ Plan,” the decision on whether to implement this plan is still pending, with the Israeli army claiming to have no information regarding the plan.
