Israeli press reports: Tel Aviv proposed one-month ceasefire in Gaza in exchange for 14 hostages

1 Mins Read

It has been claimed that Israel proposed a temporary one-month ceasefire in the Gaza Strip in exchange for the release of 14 hostages held by Hamas.

A new offer was reported in the stalled ceasefire negotiations.

According to a report in Israel’s Yediot Aharonot newspaper, David Barnea, the Director of the Israeli foreign intelligence agency Mossad, put forward a proposal for an agreement in Doha, the capital of Qatar, to restart prisoner exchange and ceasefire negotiations in Gaza. Barnea’s proposal includes Hamas releasing between 11 and 14 Israeli hostages in exchange for a one-month temporary ceasefire in Gaza. It also suggests the release of some Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails. There has been no official confirmation from Israeli authorities regarding the details of Barnea’s proposal as reported in the press. Previously, Hamas had stated that a permanent ceasefire and the withdrawal of the Israeli army from occupied areas in Gaza were conditions for a prisoner exchange. The Mossad Director had attended negotiations for a prisoner exchange in Doha on October 27-28. It is reported that Hamas currently holds 101 Israeli hostages.
