Israeli Military in Lebanese Territory: Civilians Fleeing Bombs

2 Mins Read

With Israel continuing its air strikes on Lebanon and launching a ground operation, the country has seen an escalation in the number of people fleeing. According to officials, Israel’s attacks have displaced one million Lebanese from their homes and resulted in the deaths of more than 1,100 individuals. The entry of Israeli soldiers into Lebanese territory has sparked fear and anger among the population.
As Israel’s military operation begins in Lebanon, the country is witnessing a large-scale movement of thousands of families trying to reach the north or leave the country. While the attacks endanger civilian lives, particularly children and women, the Lebanese are striving to reach areas they consider safer.
Lebanon is experiencing one of the “largest displacement movements” since the Israeli attacks in 2006. The United Nations Refugee Agency has announced that at least 100,000 people fleeing the Israeli bombardment have crossed from Lebanon to Syria.
The organization facilitates the passage of those seeking refuge in Syria through four border crossings. International concerns of a wider conflict erupting in the Middle East are on the rise. The Israel Defense Forces have called upon residents living in 25 villages in southern Lebanon to evacuate their homes immediately.
The statement emphasized, “IDF does not want to harm you. You must evacuate your homes immediately for your own safety. Any house used for Hezbollah’s military needs is planned to be targeted.” The announcement advised the Lebanese in the region to head north of the Awali River, stating, “You are not allowed to go south. Going south could endanger your life.”
IDF mentioned that information would be provided for the return to the area once security is ensured.
