The Israeli military announced that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was killed in a recent operation. Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz made a statement minutes ago saying, “Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar has died.” Hezbollah sources reported signs that Yahya Sinwar may have been killed.
The Israeli military confirmed that the body belonging to Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar was identified through a process of confirming his identity.
Israeli Army Radio stated that the incident occurred during a targeted ground operation in the city of Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip. It was reported that three Hamas members were targeted during the operation.
According to a report by Israeli state media Kan citing two Israeli officials, Sinwar’s death was confirmed, and the Security Cabinet was informed about Sinwar’s death.
NETANYAHU: HAMAS WILL NOT GOVERN GAZA
Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu stated, “Hamas will not rule Gaza with the death of Sinwar. This is an opportunity for the people of Gaza to liberate themselves from tyranny.” US President Joe Biden said, “DNA test results confirm that Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar is dead. Today is a beautiful day for the US, Israel, and the whole world.” Biden also mentioned that he would meet with Netanyahu shortly to discuss the end of the war and the return of hostages. He added that Hamas no longer has the capacity to launch attacks. US Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris said, “Israel has the right to defend itself, but the Gaza war is destabilizing the Middle East.”
Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz also revealed that Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar has died. Hezbollah sources also reported signs indicating that Yahya Sinwar may have died. CNN International Television relayed that initial DNA results delivered from Israeli officials suggested that Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar had been killed.
“VISUAL EVIDENCE SHOWS SINWAR’S IDENTITY”
Israeli Army Radio reported that visual evidence indicated that one of the deceased was Sinwar and that DNA tests were ongoing.
Israel has DNA samples taken from Sinwar during his time in an Israeli prison.
The army also claimed that there was no sign of Israeli hostages in the targeted building during the attack.
SINWAR HAS LONG BEEN A TARGET OF ISRAEL
Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported recently that Israel had bombed tunnels in areas suspected of harboring Sinwar in recent months.
It was alleged that last month, Israel promised Sinwar a “safe exit” from Gaza in exchange for the immediate release of all hostages.
Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was elected to succeed Ismail Haniyeh, who was killed in an assassination.
Sinwar was known as the mastermind behind the Israeli attack on October 7, 2023.
