Israel Fires on UN Peacekeeping Base in Lebanon Again: Two Soldiers Injured

Israeli forces once again targeted United Nations peacekeeping soldiers in Lebanon. The attack resulted in two UN soldiers being injured. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called the attack “unacceptable.” Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati also described the attack as a “crime.” In response to the attack, France summoned the Israeli ambassador.

Israel has once again targeted United Nations Peacekeeping soldiers in Lebanon.

A United Nations source announced that Israeli forces have once again fired at a UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) observation post located at the main base in Nakura in southern Lebanon.

It was reported that two individuals were injured in the attack.

The source mentioned that Israeli forces also violated the surroundings of another UNIFIL position they fired upon yesterday.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated that the attack was “unacceptable” and warned against its repetition. Guterres said, “Naturally, there has been a strong reaction from many sides in solidarity with the injured peacekeeping soldiers, unequivocally telling Israel that such incidents are unacceptable and cannot be repeated.”

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati also labeled the attack as a “crime.” Mikati reported that he discussed ceasefire efforts in Lebanon with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Today, Israeli forces fired on a UNIFIL observation post in Nakura in southern Lebanon, injuring two United Nations soldiers. Israeli soldiers also fired at another UNIFIL position yesterday, injuring two people.

STATEMENT FROM UNIFIL

In a statement from UNIFIL, it was reported that the Nakura base has been affected by explosions for the second time in the past 48 hours. The statement emphasized, “This is a serious development. UNIFIL reiterates the need to ensure the security and safety of UN personnel and property.”

FRANCE SUMMONS ISRAELI AMBASSADOR

The French Foreign Ministry announced today that following the incidents where Israeli soldiers fired at three positions including the main base of the UN peacekeeping force UNIFIL in Nakura in southern Lebanon, they have summoned the Israeli Ambassador.
