Israel confirms targeting journalists’ tent in Gaza

The Israeli military acknowledged attacking a tent in the city of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip where journalists were staying. Palestinian journalist Hilmi al-Faqawi lost his life in the airstrike. Additionally, 10 people were injured, with 9 of them being journalists. In a written statement from the army, it was stated that “the army and the internal intelligence agency Shin Bet (Shabak) targeted Hasan Abdulfettah Muhammed Islih, who is a member of Hamas and works under the guise of a journalist and as part of a media company, in Khan Yunis last night.” The statement alleged that the attack was carried out with the aim of targeting Islih, who is part of Hamas’s Khan Yunis Brigade. Islih, one of the injured journalists in the attack, has not yet made a statement regarding Israel’s claims. Israeli warplanes bombed a tent where journalists were staying near Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, causing a fire in the tent. Initial reports stated that one journalist was killed and 10 people, including 9 journalists, were injured in the attack. The Israeli army continues to frequently target journalists who are protected under international conventions with attacks in Gaza. Following the death of a journalist in the attack on the tent where journalists were staying, the number of journalists killed since October 7, 2023, has risen to 210.
