Iran announced that the decision has been made for the second round of negotiations with the US to take place in Oman.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ismail Bekayi stated in an interview with the official news agency IRNA that “Following consultations, it was decided for Muscat to continue hosting the second round of talks scheduled for Saturday, April 20th.”
After US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from the nuclear deal with Iran in 2018, he sent a letter to Iran’s leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei last month calling for direct nuclear negotiations. Iran responded to the letter via Oman. Following the letter exchange, Iran and the US held indirect talks in Oman on April 12th. Both Iran and the US stated that the discussions were “positive and constructive.” They announced that they would meet again on April 19th. The US media had reported that the second round of negotiations would take place in the capital of Italy, Rome.
