Former Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani stated that Iran has no intention of producing nuclear weapons, but they might be forced to do so in the event of an attack. He warned Washington to “change your stance.” Adviser to Iran’s leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and former parliament speaker Ali Larijani made these remarks on a state television program. Larijani addressed the threats from the US towards Iran, mentioning that Iran has the capacity to produce nuclear weapons but they are not inclined to do so in accordance with Khamenei’s fatwa against weapons of mass destruction. Larijani urged the US, saying, “Iran does not wish to do this, but if you apply pressure, the public will push us to do it for the sake of the country’s security. If you choose to bomb either yourselves or Israel, you will compel Iran to make different decisions. This would not be in your interest. Therefore, change your stance.”
