Iran’s President Pezeshkian acknowledged a severe water crisis in the country and warned the public. He also apologized to the Iranian people for the electricity cuts. President Mesud Pezeşkiyan, speaking at the signing ceremony of a $17 billion energy investment project in the capital Tehran according to state television, addressed the energy problems in the country and the power cuts that occurred a few months ago. Pezeshkian emphasized that excessive and unnecessary energy consumption is one of society’s fundamental issues and stated, “We must solve the problems arising from scarcity and imbalance in the energy sector by managing and preventing excessive consumption, and we will definitely do this with the cooperation and participation of the public.”
APOLOGY FOR ELECTRICITY CUTS
Expressing the challenges faced during a difficult winter period, Pezeshkian continued, “The gas reserves in our tankers were not sufficient to meet the needs of energy plants. Certainly, our valuable colleagues at the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy managed to overcome the shortages by increasing production and closing this difficult period, so the public did not run out of gas during the winter. I apologize to the people once again for the electricity cuts.”
“FACING A SEVERE WATER CRISIS”
Addressing the water scarcity caused by drought and excessive consumption in the country, Pezeshkian warned, “We are currently experiencing a severe water crisis. If we do not use it correctly, we will definitely face problems. We need a campaign for optimal water consumption to implement our plans.” It had been reported that the water levels in the dams in Iran had dropped due to the ongoing drought. Tehran Water Authority had called on the public on March 6 to reduce their consumption by 20% to prevent water cuts during the summer months.
