Investigation of Spies in the USA: Probe for Leaks from the Military

2 Mins Read

The Pentagon of the United States recently announced that a comprehensive investigation would be conducted regarding “unauthorized disclosures” from the institution. It was noted that in the investigations, a “lie detector” would also be used in accordance with laws.

Joe Kasper, the Special Assistant to the US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, stated in a written announcement on the Ministry’s website that recent unauthorized disclosures of national security information involving sensitive communications with directors in the Department of Defense Office require an immediate and thorough investigation.

Kasper indicated that the investigation related to the disclosures would start “immediately” and noted that a “lie detector” would also be used in accordance with laws in the investigations. Kasper stated that the results of the investigation would be reported to the Department of Defense in a report, which would contain a complete record of unauthorized disclosures within the Department of Defense and recommendations for improving such efforts. He also emphasized that those found to be disclosing beyond their authority would be subject to criminal prosecution.

Similar practices are also on the agenda in other ministries.
The US Department of Homeland Security had previously announced in early March that a lie detector application would be used to prevent leaks of information from the ministry to the media. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, in a video shared on X, stated, “Within the Department of Homeland Security, we identified two leakers who are providing information to individuals about our operations and endangering the lives of law enforcement officers. We plan to prosecute and hold these two individuals accountable for their actions.” Furthermore, the Department of Justice announced yesterday that it had initiated its own investigation into the leaking of secret information regarding the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang.
