In September, the inflation in the Euro Area dropped from 2.2% to 1.7% on an annual basis. Consumer prices saw a decrease of 0.1% on a monthly basis. The European Statistical Office (Eurostat) released the final inflation data for the Euro Area and the European Union (EU) in September. According to the data, the annual inflation in the Euro Area, which was 2.2% in August, decreased to 1.7% in September. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) saw a 0.1% decrease on a monthly basis in September. Market expectations were for the annual inflation in the Euro Area to be 1.8% in September, with a monthly inflation of -0.1%. In September, core inflation in the Euro Area was measured at 2.7% annually and 0.1% monthly. Therefore, the inflation rate in the Euro Area in September reached its lowest level in the past three years and fell below the European Central Bank’s (ECB) target of 2%. Looking at the main components of inflation in the Euro Area, the highest annual inflation of 1.76% was observed in services. It was followed by 0.47% in food, alcohol, and tobacco products, and 0.12% in non-energy industrial products. Inflation in energy products was -0.6%. In the EU, the annual inflation, which was 2.4% in August, decreased to 2.1% in September. In August, the CPI in the EU was determined as -0.1% on a monthly basis. According to harmonized data in the EU, the countries with the highest annual inflation in September were Romania with 4.9%, Belgium with 4.3%, Poland with 4.2%, and the Netherlands with 3.3%. In September, the annual inflation rates were 1.8% in Germany, 1.4% in France, 0.7% in Italy, and 1.7% in Spain.
