LOSING CANDIDATE GONZALEZ TO CONTEST RESULTS
The opposition candidate Luisa Gonzalez, who was defeated by incumbent President Daniel Noboa in the second round of the presidential election in Ecuador, announced that they will contest the results. Speaking to the press at her party’s headquarters in Quito, Gonzalez stated that they will challenge the election results announced by the National Electoral Council (CNE). Emphasizing that they will demand the reopening of the ballots and a recount of the votes, Gonzalez said, “Ecuador is experiencing its most dictatorial and deceptive election process in history. We do not accept these results.” Reminding that she came first in most of the polls, Gonzalez made the following statement: “I declare that a dictatorship has been established in Ecuador in front of my people, the media, and the world, and that we have witnessed the most ludicrous election fraud in the country’s history. I reject this referendum of the people that prefers lies and violence over truth and peace. Therefore, the people have stood with us against violence and lies. We will request the reopening of the ballots and a recount of the votes.” Referring to the voter turnout they received in the first round of the elections, Gonzalez asked, “How can it be credible that not even a single vote has increased? How can it be possible that eleven different polls turned out to be wrong?” Meanwhile, according to the CNE, the ruling party candidate and incumbent President Daniel Noboa, who won the presidential election, stated in his remarks that they achieved a historic victory leaving no doubt.
