An unusual incident occurred on United Airlines flight 2247. A passenger displaying aggressive behavior physically attacked a male passenger who was sleeping in his seat as he returned from the lavatory during the second hour of the flight. Court documents indicated that the sleeping passenger was punched repeatedly in the face and head until blood was drawn, lasting for approximately a minute.

During a United Airlines flight, a sleeping passenger was attacked by another passenger exhibiting aggressive behavior. The man who attacked the sleeping passenger without any reason was subdued with the intervention of other passengers and the crew. According to the complaint filed, a passenger named Everett Chad Nelson allegedly began physically assaulting a male passenger who was sleeping in his seat as he returned from the lavatory during the second hour of the flight.

REPEATEDLY PUNCHED: Court documents stated that Nelson repeatedly punched the unidentified man in the face and head until blood was drawn, lasting for about a minute. The documents also mentioned that Nelson suddenly attacked the other man without any indication that the victim was responding defensively.

APPRECIATION FROM THE AIRLINE: United Airlines issued a statement thanking the crew and other passengers on flight 2247 for their “swift action” in restraining Nelson. The airline confirmed that the flight from San Francisco to Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia landed safely and was met by health officials and local law enforcement.

UNRULY PASSENGER INCIDENTS: The FBI is investigating the recent headline-making incident involving a disruptive passenger on a commercial flight. The Federal Aviation Administration stated that airlines reported over 1,700 incidents in 2024. The FAA initiates legal action against any passenger who attacks, threatens, intimidates, or interferes with airline crew and can propose legal penalties of up to $37,000 per violation.
