The World Health Organization has warned that outbreak of diseases could occur in Lebanon due to the current conditions under Israeli bombardment. So far, five hospitals in Lebanon have closed, with four partially functional.
The attacks by Israel on Lebanon from both land and air have brought out risks of diseases alongside death and injuries.
The World Health Organization (WHO), a United Nations agency, cautioned that the closure of hospitals in Lebanon and the crowded shelters of displaced civilians could lead to outbreaks.
Deputy incident manager in charge of Lebanon, Ian Clarke, stated at a press conference in Geneva, “We are facing a situation where the risk of outbreaks like acute watery diarrhea, hepatitis A, and other preventable diseases with a range of vaccines is much higher.” Clarke noted that the health system is already under extreme pressure and that five hospitals in the country have closed so far, with four only partially operational. He added that the reasons for hospitals closing include health workers fleeing the war like other civilians or evacuation calls.
POPULATION OF 20% HAS MIGRATED
Furthermore, Josep Borrell, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, emphasized the worsening situation in Lebanon every day and called for a ceasefire in his speech at the European Parliament today. Borrell reported that approximately 20% of Lebanon’s population has been forced to migrate, according to figures.
