Hizbullah announced that they killed and wounded more than 20 Israeli soldiers from the “elite forces” in an attack they carried out in a border village in southern Lebanon. In a written statement on social media, Hizbullah claimed that a Merkava tank near the Lebanese border in the Malikiye region in northern Israel was hit by a guided missile, causing it to burn, and that over 20 soldiers from Israel’s “elite forces” were killed in the attack. It was also stated that rocket launchers and artillery positions in the Krayot area in northern Israel and Kiryat Shmona were targeted. The statement mentioned that in the town of Maroun al-Ras in southern Lebanon, a “force consisting of military vehicles and soldiers belonging to the Israeli army” was targeted, resulting in Israeli soldiers being killed and injured. Hizbullah also noted that positions such as Rweisat al-Alam in the Kefr Shuba Hills, as well as the Karmiel and Sasa areas in the north, were targeted. The Israeli army has been conducting intense airstrikes over southern Lebanon, Bekaa, and Baalbek regions in the context of ongoing clashes with Hizbullah since October 8, 2023. The attacks have intensified since September 23, resulting in a total of 1411 casualties, including 104 children and 194 women, since September 17. Hizbullah leader Hasan Nasrallah was killed in an airstrike in Beirut on September 27. Hizbullah retaliates against Israel with rocket and missile attacks. While significant damage is not reported in Israel, hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced in Lebanon, with many forced to move to northern Lebanon and Syria.
