Vice President of the United States and Democratic Party Presidential Candidate Kamala Harris visited the Mexico border. Harris promised to enhance border security and prevent the entry of Fentanyl drug, stating that those who enter the country illegally will face harsher penalties and will be banned from reentry for five years if caught. Additionally, emphasizing the increase in resources for border security, Harris criticized her Republican rival Donald Trump on this issue. Vice President of the United States and Democratic Party Presidential Candidate Kamala Harris visited the US-Mexico border in Douglas, Arizona.
Receiving information from border guards working around the security wall, Harris made statements at a campaign event held at Cochise College Campus in Douglas after a visit lasting about half an hour. Harris, who said she would impose harsher penalties on people trying to repeatedly enter the United States illegally if elected president, also stated that she would prevent those entering the country illegally from applying for asylum.
Indicating that individuals entering the country illegally will be “captured and deported and banned from reentry for five years,” Harris stated that “we will ensure that entries, including airports and ports, are equipped with additional high technologies that detect Fentanyl (drug) and the chemical tools used to produce it.” Harris also pledged to double the resources allocated by the Department of Justice to extradite and prosecute crime syndicates and cartels crossing borders.
Emphasizing the need for cooperation in solving security issues at borders, Harris stated, “Anyone claiming to be a leader needs to collaborate with other leaders for sensible solutions, which is critical.” Referring to working together in real-time and producing sensible approaches, Harris criticized her Republican rival Donald Trump, saying, “The American people deserve a President who prioritizes border security over political games.”
Harris expressed, “As President, I will reintroduce the border security bill sabotaged by Donald Trump and proudly sign it into law.” In statements made on social media platform X, Harris expressed support for the most robust and fair bipartisan border security reform of recent years by President Biden and herself.
Harris noted that Republicans in Congress voted against this reform twice, saying, “We have taken steps to reduce illegal border crossings, and currently, these numbers are lower than when we took office.” Emphasizing that the United States is a “sovereign nation,” Harris said, “We have a duty to establish and implement rules at our borders. I take this responsibility seriously.”
Reiterating that the drug Fentanyl entering the United States from borders is a “menace,” Harris stated, “I have met many families who have lost their loved ones to Fentanyl, and this devastation is felt from rural communities to big cities.” Harris stated, “As your President, I will make preventing the flow of Fentanyl into the United States my top priority, protect our nation’s sovereignty, secure our borders, and work to fix our broken immigration system. To do this, I will collaborate with Democrats, Republicans, and Independent politicians.”
