Gun Attack on Construction Workers in Pakistan: 7 Dead

2 Mins Read

In a gun attack carried out in the southwest province of Baluchistan in Pakistan, 7 construction workers lost their lives. According to Pakistani media, unidentified armed assailants opened fire on the workers at the construction site in Panjgur district last night. A statement from the police reported that 7 workers were killed in the attack, with one person injured. It was noted that all the workers targeted in the attack had come to Panjgur from the Punjab province to work. While no group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet, security forces are considering the possibility that the perpetrators may belong to separatist groups operating in the Baluchistan province. Meanwhile, security forces have initiated operations to apprehend the attackers. Last month in the Musalhel district of Baluchistan, armed individuals had stopped buses and trucks carrying workers from Punjab and opened fire, resulting in the deaths of 23 people. TERROR ATTACKS IN PAKISTAN ON THE RISE In recent years, terrorist attacks have been on the rise in Pakistan. These attacks are particularly concentrated in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Baluchistan provinces that share borders with Afghanistan. Armed groups claiming to defend the rights of the Pashtun and Baluch ethnic groups are carrying out attacks against Pakistani security forces and civilians in both provinces. Islamabad alleges that the Pakistani Taliban (TTP) is based in Afghanistan and organizes attacks from there, a claim that is denied by the Afghan government. In addition, the attacks by the Baluchistan Liberation Army (BLA) in Baluchistan are prominent. BLA advocates for the separation of Baluchistan from Pakistan and for the Baluch people to govern the region. BLA targets not only security forces in Baluchistan but also workers from other regions and companies operating in the area with their attacks.
