The Chief of General Staff Houpis claimed that Turkey poses a threat to Greece and they are ready to take action within minutes in response to any threat. Greek Chief of General Staff Dimitrios Houpis evaluated Turkey at the 10th Delphi Economic Forum. Asserting that Turkey is a “persistent threat,” Houpis stated that Greek forces are ready to take action within minutes. According to the Greek City Times news site, Houpis pointed out the “persistent challenge” Turkey poses to Greece, claiming that the Greek Armed Forces are prepared to respond within five minutes to any threat. Houpis, who suggests that Turkey has revisionist tactics, stated that Greece focuses only on solving issues related to territorial waters and exclusive economic zones.
Chief of General Staff emphasized the importance of strength against hybrid threats. Speaking to journalist Kostas Sarikas on Alpha TV, Houpis underlined Greece’s determination to take action decisively when necessary. Describing the Mediterranean as a geopolitical center and a fundamental area of the country’s interests, Houpis emphasized the vitality of strength for deterrence against hybrid threats. The Chief of General Staff also evaluated the operational developments, mentioning that lessons learned from recent conflicts have been integrated into a 12-year new weapons program. Houpis described efforts to resist technological developments as well, along with advanced technologies like unmanned aerial vehicles. Houpis called on the youth to pursue a career in the military, stating that it is a combination of “service, science, and secure livelihood in defense of the nation.”
