A mysterious structure located 40 kilometers away from the Giza Pyramids in Egypt has sparked conspiracy theories. Users of Google Maps have identified the complex, suggesting it could be a ‘Stargate’ or a military facility.

In Egypt, a mysterious structure shaped like a horseshoe, located south of the Giza Pyramids, has gained attention on social media. The complex, with no official description on Google Maps and situated at coordinates 29°54’23″N 31°08’02″E, has prompted various conspiracy theories. A Google Maps user referenced the popular science fiction series Stargate, asking, “Is this a Stargate?” Images of the structure have led to speculation worldwide, with claims that it could be a spaceship, an ancient trap system, or a modern military facility. MILITARY FACILITY CLAIMS GAIN GROUND According to a report in the Daily Mail, such structures have been observed in countries like Iran, where they are typically used as missile ramps or aircraft bunkers. It is known that similar structures were built in Egypt between the years 1950-1970. These air defense facilities were developed to protect strategic locations from aerial threats and armed with Soviet-made high-altitude surface-to-air missiles (SAM). ALIEN BASE THEORIES A similar structure made headlines in 2016 with theories linking it to UFO research. The UFO research group, Secureteam10, described such complexes as “secret government bases” in their YouTube videos. Comments on the video included phrases like “This looks like something out of Star Wars” and “Is this Egypt’s secret UFO base?” Egypt is one of the countries where alien theories are highly discussed. The claim that the Giza Pyramids were built by extraterrestrial beings is frequently brought up. In 2020, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk wrote on social media, “Of course, aliens built the pyramids,” causing a big stir. In response to this statement, Egyptian officials invited Musk to investigate how the pyramids were actually built. THE MYSTERY OF THE PYRAMIDS The Giza Pyramids, located on a plateau to the west of the Nile River in the north of Egypt, are still considered an engineering marvel. These structures, including the Great Pyramid, Khafre, and Menkaure, were built for the pharaohs of Egypt, with strong archaeological evidence proving they were constructed by human hands. Renowned Egyptian archaeologist Zahi Hawass countered Musk’s alien claims by stating, “This is purely a hallucination.” Musk later corrected his statement by sharing an article that mostly accepted that the pyramids were likely built by Egyptians.
