Giant project in Japan: a 500-kilometer walking road

November 7, 20241 Mins Read

Japan is considering a new method to combat increasing greenhouse gas emissions. A 500-kilometer walking belt to be established between Tokyo and Osaka will replace road transportation.

In order to combat increasing greenhouse gas emissions, Japan is preparing to develop an innovative transportation method. Planned to be established between Tokyo and Osaka and be 500 kilometers long, the walking belt system will replace road transportation.

After an approximate 10-year construction period, the project is expected to cost 25 billion Euros. It is anticipated that this “walking road,” designed for two-way traffic, will be able to transport 25,000 containers per day.

In Japan, where the shortage of truck drivers is increasing, it is believed that this project could revolutionize the transportation sector. According to data, the transportation sector accounts for 7% of carbon emissions in the atmosphere. However, the high cost of the project, potential maintenance challenges, and security risks are causing concerns in some circles.
