The Deputy Government Spokesperson for Germany announced that Chancellor Olaf Scholz will be visiting Turkey on October 19th. Scholz is expected to meet with President Erdoğan in Istanbul.
During a press conference in Berlin, Deputy Government Spokesperson Wolfgang Büchner stated that Chancellor Scholz will visit Turkey next weekend and will meet with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Istanbul on October 19th. Büchner mentioned that a press conference will be held after the meeting. He couldn’t reveal details about the meeting agenda beforehand, but noted that discussions on the war in Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, migration, bilateral relations, and economic policies are expected. Büchner also mentioned that he couldn’t comment on Germany’s stance on Eurofighter sales or provide detailed information on arms exports during these discussions.
“Turkey is an important partner” Responding to a question about whether there are any new expectations regarding this visit, Büchner reiterated that he wouldn’t comment on arms exports and that there is no announcement to be made, stating, “However, you can always expect something new when the German Chancellor visits the Turkish President.” Büchner emphasized that the war in Ukraine will be a significant topic during the visit, saying, “Turkey is an important partner in this regard.”
