Gaza Stadium Becomes Shelter for Displaced Palestinians

2 Mins Read

The Cibaliye refugee camp, besieged by Israel last week, is no longer a refuge for Palestinians. Civilians forced to flee have sought shelter at the Yarmouk Stadium in Gaza. In the past week alone, 150 people were killed in Cibaliye. Many Palestinians displaced from Cibaliye have no choice but to try to continue their lives in a football stadium in Gaza.

One of those fleeing Israeli attacks is Neriman Tawil, who described their forced displacement to Reuters. Tawil said: “We fled from Abu Iskender, they issued an evacuation order and told us to leave. We left there and went to the Yarmouk Stadium, went to schools, but the schools were full and crowded, with no place for us. So we came to the Yarmouk Stadium, which was filled with people.”

Health officials confirmed that at least 29 Palestinians were killed in the attacks Israel carried out in Gaza yesterday. The army continues to advance in the Cibaliye area where thousands are trapped. Local residents reported that Israeli forces continue to strike Cibaliye, the largest of the historical refugee camps located in northern Gaza, from the air and ground.

The Israeli army claimed in the past days to have killed many individuals they allege are militants in Cibaliye and surrounding areas, as well as identifying weapons and disrupting military infrastructure. The operation in this area started a week ago, with the army stating it aims to prevent Hamas from rearming. Hamas denies allegations that its fighters use civilian areas as bases.

Palestinian health authorities estimate that around 150 people were killed in Cibaliye last week.
