In Osmaniye, an architect established a banana greenhouse with government support. Architect Mustafa Güvel, who grows bananas on 9 acres of land, harvests 72 tons of produce per year. Güvel, emphasizing that dried bananas are very popular, has set his sights on exporting overseas. Resident in the Sumbas district of Osmaniye, Mustafa Güvel produces bananas on 9 acres of land with a 50% grant support from the government. Although his main profession is architecture, Mustafa Güvel was inspired by the banana greenhouses he saw in Antalya and wanted to establish a banana greenhouse in his hometown. Therefore, after conducting various researches and shaping his project, Güvel applied to the Rural Development Investments Support Program of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in 2021 for the greenhouse he would establish on his land. Güvel, whose project was accepted and received a 50% grant support, produces bananas in the established 9-acre greenhouse. Güvel aims to double the size of his greenhouse, which yields over 70 tons of produce annually, and dry the bananas to send abroad. Mustafa Güvel explained that he comes from a family of farmers and enjoys working with the land. Indicating that he started banana production with government support after being impressed by the greenhouses he saw in Antalya, Güvel continued lovingly. “I established this greenhouse with a 50% grant. Not only did we receive grant support, but we were able to establish such a greenhouse thanks to our consultants on the subject. Our greenhouse is currently on a 9-acre area. We have an annual production of approximately 72 tons of bananas. We made our initial sales to wholesalers in Adana. After setting up our own cold storage, we started supplying local stores.” Mustafa Güvel stated that he simultaneously pursues farming alongside his profession. Güvel, mentioning that he continues his efforts to increase production in more areas, said, “My main goal is to expand the greenhouse to 20 acres next year and to enlarge the cold storage. Besides that, dried bananas are quite popular overseas. I plan to slice and dry bananas with a banana drying machine and send them to Russia and Middle Eastern countries.”
