France’s Foreign Minister, Barrot, stated that “a military conflict seems almost inevitable” if an agreement is not reached on Iran’s nuclear program. Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot of France stated that a military conflict seems ‘almost inevitable’ if a new agreement is not quickly reached on Iran’s nuclear program. Following a meeting President Emmanuel Macron held with ministers on Iran, Barrot emphasized the near expiration of the 2015 agreement on Iran’s nuclear program, stating that the ‘window of opportunity is narrow.’ The French Foreign Minister used the phrase, “In case of failure, a military conflict appears almost inevitable.” “EUROPE CONCERNED” Three diplomatic sources informed Reuters about the cabinet meeting held yesterday, which was a rare occasion and where concerns were raised about the possibility of Washington’s European allies potentially conducting air strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities in collaboration with the U.S. and Israel if no swift agreement is achieved concerning Iran’s nuclear program. Furthermore, the statement by the French Foreign Minister came following the U.S. Department of Defense’s (Pentagon) decision to enhance its military capacity by deploying more warplanes to the Middle East. A senior European official recounted how European strategists questioned whether the recent U.S. attacks on Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen are a precursor to a possible future American attack on Iran in the coming months. After U.S. President Donald Trump called for immediate negotiations with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, he threatened Iran with attacks and secondary tariff impositions if an agreement on Iran’s nuclear program is not reached. U.S. MEDIA: TRUMP CONSIDERS INDIRECT NEGOTIATIONS Reports in the U.S. media suggest that President Trump seriously contemplates engaging in “indirect” nuclear discussions with Iran. According to a news article based on two anonymous U.S. officials by the Axios news portal, the White House is evaluating options for nuclear negotiations with Iran. The news article suggests that Trump is considering conducting indirect nuclear discussions with Tehran while simultaneously increasing U.S. military presence in the Middle East. IRAN ENGAGES IN NUCLEAR TALKS WITH EUROPE Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Ismail Bekayi, stated in early March that they had reached an agreement to continue nuclear negotiations with the E3, namely the UK, Germany, and France. Responding to questions in a weekly press conference, Bekayi emphasized an agreement to continue discussions with the European parties and mentioned that they are currently exploring the possibility of a new round of negotiations. Bekayi reiterated the belief of Iran and the three European countries that consider the negotiations necessary.
