In South Korea, the death toll in the forest fires that started 7 days ago has risen to 26, with 30 injured. The size of the burned forest area has reached 36,009 hectares, while a total of 37,185 people have been evacuated.
As South Korea enters the 7th day of the forest fires that have turned life into a nightmare in South Gyeongsang and North Gyeongsang provinces, the increasing losses have revealed the scale of the disaster. According to information from the South Korea Central Disaster and Safety Measures Headquarters, the number of fatalities in the fires has increased to 26. It was reported that 22 of the deaths were in North Gyeongsang province, and 4 were recorded in South Gyeongsang province, with 8 in critical condition and 30 injured. 16,700 people are staying in shelters. The total number of people evacuated due to the fires is 37,185, with 20,485 returning home after the danger passed.

So far, it has been reported that 36,009 hectares of land have burned, with approximately 13,000 more hectares burned than the forest fires in 2000, known as the worst in history. The fires are still ongoing. As of today, it was stated that 52% of the fires in the city of Andong, 54% in the Uiseong region, and 77% in the Sancheong Hadong and Cheongsong regions have been extinguished. The fight against the flames continues.
Interim President Han Duck-soo instructed interim Minister of the Interior Ko Ki-dong to supervise the firefighting and relief efforts in North Gyeongsang province.
