The intense rainfall in Bosnia and Herzegovina continues to have a negative impact on life. The rain, affecting the central and southern parts of the country, caused flooding. As a result of the flood, 14 people lost their lives. The severe downpour that hit the central and southern parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the night brought with it the flood. Many residential areas and roads were closed, leaving homes without electricity. Nermin Niksic, the Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Entity, stated that the situation is very serious, with many people trapped in their homes. Niksic said, “Unfortunately, there have been casualties. We will inform the public about every aspect.” Darko Jukan, from the management of Jablanica, a municipality in the Herzegovina Neretva Canton, reported that 14 people lost their lives in Jablanica city. Zeljko Komsic, a Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, issued a message of condolences for those who lost their lives in the flood disaster. Komsic stated, “Bosnian institutions will take all necessary measures to promptly address the effects of the flood and provide assistance to the people.” Rescue teams initiated a search for the missing individuals in the most affected cities of Jablanica and Kiseljak, where the electricity was cut off throughout the night, and no signals could be received from cell phones. The Jablanica Fire Department announced that the city had become entirely inaccessible due to closed roads and railways. The administration of the Herzegovina Neretva Canton emphasized that the situation in the north was critical, with transportation completely cut off due to severe rainfall causing rivers to overflow and landslides blocking roads. They also mentioned that the telecommunication infrastructure was partially out of service. People were urged not to travel towards Konjic and Jablanica. Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Defense Minister Zukan Helez instructed the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina to participate in the rescue operations for civilians in flood-affected areas in the morning hours. The intense rain and storm also affected Bosnia and Herzegovina’s neighbor, Croatia, causing flooding in some towns and villages.
