Italy, a Mediterranean country, is battling severe storms and rainfall. Due to the precipitation across the country, a flood risk has been identified in 5 regions, prompting an “orange” alert. Excessive rainfall has caused numerous areas in Italy to be submerged. Reports indicate that the Ravone River near the city of Bologna overflowed, causing many streets to be flooded. The Mayor of Bologna, Matteo Lepore, urged residents to avoid driving their cars and stay away from the ground floor of their homes. The city of Catania on the island of Sicily in the south of the country was also affected by the rainfall, with the Etnea Street in the city center being flooded. It was reported that the Po River passing through the city of Turin has reached flood levels at certain points. When a portion of the runway and apron at Palermo’s airport were submerged, the airport had to be closed to incoming flights. Flights were redirected to other airports for landing.
