1 Mins Read

Reports indicate that over 2 million people have been displaced due to a flood disaster in Nigeria’s Kogi state. Umar Y. Mahmud, the Red Cross Disaster Management Officer in Kogi State, stated that flooding occurred in 9 zones in Kogi state as a result of the overflow of the Niger and Benue rivers. Mahmud noted that over 2 million people have been displaced as a result of the flood disaster. He explained that rescue teams have been aiding in the evacuation of residents to camps and villages, stating, “The situation is very bad right now due to the rise of the Niger River.” Mahmud also mentioned that 150,000 hectares of land have been submerged under water due to the flood disaster. Earlier this year, about 300 people had lost their lives in floods caused by heavy rains in Nigeria.
