US President Donald Trump spoke for the first time with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenski after the debate at the White House. Trump, in his remarks about the meeting, stated that his discussion with Zelenski lasted about an hour and went “very well.” He also mentioned that a significant portion of the conversation was shaped by his phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin the day before: “I just completed a very good phone call with Ukrainian President Zelenski. It lasted about an hour. A large part of our conversation was based on yesterday’s phone call with President Putin and was aimed at reconciling the demands and needs of Russia and Ukraine.” Trump also mentioned, “Our process is proceeding quite well, and I will ask Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Adviser Michael Waltz to make a statement. During the meeting between Trump and Putin yesterday, a 2.5-hour discussion included an agreement for the mutual exchange of 175 war prisoners for each country and a temporary halt to attacks on energy infrastructure for 30 days.
The exchange of prisoners took place today. It was also noted that during the meeting, Putin proposed organizing a hockey match between the two countries’ teams in the US, an offer that Trump supported.
