First harvest of early cherries in Silifke: Price per kilo is high

1 Mins Read

In Silifke district of Mersin, the first harvest of cherries has been priced at 2,250 Turkish lira per kilogram. Due to cold weather, the early cherry harvest in the Değirmendere neighborhood of Silifke district started 20 days late. During the initial harvest, farmers collected 10 kilograms of cherries. The early cherries collected from approximately 100 acres of greenhouses were packaged in 100-gram packets and sent both to the domestic market and abroad. Merchant Cihan Kaplan mentioned that the cherries they gathered have been exported to major cities in the country and international markets such as Dubai and Qatar. Kaplan stated, “Under normal conditions, if the harvest was not delayed and early export took place, the price per kilogram would have been 5,500 Turkish lira. However, currently the prices range between 2,000 and 2,250 Turkish lira. Despite that, we are still satisfied with the prices.”
