A fire broke out at a nuclear submarine shipyard in the UK. Two people affected by the smoke from the fire were taken to the hospital.

The fire occurred at the nuclear submarine shipyard owned by BAE Systems, an aerospace and defense industry company, in Barrow-in-Furness, UK, around 00:44 local time.

In a statement by the police, it was mentioned that 2 people affected by the smoke were taken to the hospital and the main assembly area where the fire broke out was evacuated. The police announced that there was no “nuclear risk” at the shipyard.

The local fire department warned residents in the area to keep their windows and doors closed and stay away from the scene. It was reported that the fire was extinguished by the fire crews after hours of work. While the cause of the fire is still unknown, an investigation has been launched into the incident.

Currently, at the shipyard, construction is underway for 4 new nuclear submarines of the Dreadnought class, which are expected to replace the Vanguard submarines in the Royal Navy within the next 5 years.
