Farewell to the Seas: Fishing Ban Begins

1 Mins Read

Fishermen in the Aegean Region will bid farewell to the fishing season on April 15th. Those who caught the most anchovies and sardines this year are expected to close the season with more fish compared to last year. The fishing season, which began on September 1st in the seas, is coming to an end. Approximately 1,800 fishermen from the Aegean region are working diligently as the season, which will end on April 15th, approaches. Setting off in the choppy waters of the sea with a prayer, fishermen chase after the schools of fish and then transport the caught fish to the fish markets in Izmir to be distributed to all corners of Turkey and abroad. During this fishing season, Aegean fishermen have supplied the markets with plenty of anchovies and sardines. Despite a fruitful first four months of the season, fishermen were unable to achieve their desired catch due to the effects of wind and increasing water temperature from January onwards.
