Eurasia President of the International Association of Flour Industrialists and Grain Merchants (IAOM), Eren Günhan Ulusoy, stated that they aim to export more than 3 million tons of flour this year, saying, “We will continue to hold our world championship title in global flour exports.” Ulusoy, in a written statement made on World Flour Day on March 20, emphasized the critical role of the industry in feeding the world population and highlighted the significance of flour as one of the essential staple foods. Noting that the flour industry has been the world’s export champion for 10 years in its field, Ulusoy said, “With a yearly wheat processing capacity of 32 million tons in the flour industry, there are 508 flour factories in 69 provinces. We predict that the capacity utilization rate in the sector will remain around 50% for 2025, resulting in approximately 50% of production capacity being idle.” Ulusoy, despite restrictions on wheat imports and increased logistic costs, mentioned that they closed the year 2024 with over 3 million tons of flour exports and expressed, “This year, we will surpass 3 million tons in flour exports again and maintain our world championship title in global flour exports.” Flour exports to Palestine tripled Eren Günhan Ulusoy reported that there was a decrease in flour exports in the first 2 months of the year compared to the same period in 2024 due to restrictions on wheat imports. Ulusoy stated that the exports of grains, legumes, and oilseeds sector to Palestine increased by 290% to $107 million in the January-February period and noted: “Thus, we became the second sector to export the most to Palestine. The most significant item in grains, legumes, and oilseeds is the flour sector, and we exported 36 thousand tons of flour to Palestine last year. In the first two months, our flour exports to Palestine tripled to 11 thousand tons, reaching $4.6 million. As flour industrialists, we will continue to meet the needs of Palestine.”
