The European Statistics Office, Eurostat, has released data on the average life expectancy in European Union (EU) countries. According to the data, the average lifespan in Europe has increased to 81.4 years.

According to the data, in 2023, the average life expectancy in EU countries increased by 0.8 years compared to the previous year, reaching 81.4 years. Life expectancy surpassed the 2019 value by recovering from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic periods.
Compared to 2002, the average life expectancy has also increased by 3.8 years. Women’s average lifespan exceeded men’s by 5.3 years. In EU countries, the average life expectancy was 84 years for women and 78.7 years for men. The countries with the longest average life expectancy in the EU were Spain at 84 years, Italy at 83.5 years, Luxembourg, Malta, Sweden at 83.4 years, and France at 83 years.
Germany had an average life expectancy of 81.1 years, while the lowest was measured in Latvia at 75.6 years, Bulgaria at 75.8 years, and Romania at 76.4 years.
