The President of the EU Council, Costa, stated that they want to enhance collaboration in defense with 5 NATO countries, including Turkey. European Union (EU) Council President Antonio Costa and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen shared on their social media accounts about the Online Meeting of Like-minded Country Leaders, which President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also attended. Costa mentioned that during the video conference held this morning, they informed President Erdoğan, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, and Icelandic Prime Minister Kristrun Mjoll Frostadottir about the summit on Ukraine and European defense held in Brussels yesterday. Costa used terms such as “Our collaboration with like-minded NATO partners is crucial for international security. Also for Ukraine. To increase our joint efforts in defense.” He added, “It is imperative for us to work together with our partners in Europe and beyond the Atlantic to support Ukraine in order to achieve a fair and lasting peace.” Von der Leyen also mentioned that they have accelerated their efforts in this area with a defense plan called “Rearm Europe” prepared for the defense of the European people and the long-term security of Ukraine.
