2 Mins Read

Following the dispute between President Trump and Zelensky in the Oval Office and the suspension of military aid to Ukraine, an extraordinary summit was held in Brussels. European leaders, including Zelensky, gathered to express support for Ukraine in the face of Russia and the US.
European Union (EU) countries convened in Brussels for an extraordinary summit focusing on European defense and Ukraine.
Prior to the summit, European leaders emphasized their commitment to support Kiev.
Antonio Costa, President of the EU Council, along with Ursula von der Leyen, President of the EU Commission, and the specially invited Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky made statements to the press at the summit entrance. Costa highlighted that European security and defense cannot be separated from Ukraine’s, affirming that the EU will continue supporting Kiev until it becomes an EU member.
Von der Leyen also remarked, “We are going through a turning point for Europe and Ukraine, a part of our family.”
Stating, “Europe faces an explicit and current danger,” von der Leyen emphasized the need for Europe to position itself to both protect and defend itself, as well as enable Ukraine to protect itself for a lasting and fair peace. Ukrainian President Zelensky expressed gratitude to all European leaders for the clear and strong support shown since the beginning of the war.
Referring to his dispute with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office, Zelensky stated, “You have been by our side throughout this process and last week.”
Zelensky added, “Not only in words but in action. We feel it. The powerful message you have sent to the people of Ukraine, Ukrainian fighters, civilians, and all families is very important.” The extraordinary summit in Brussels holds critical importance due to being organized immediately after President Trump’s dispute with Zelensky in the Oval Office and the decision to suspend military aid to Kiev.
